Lt. Lance Schafer has been on the cross for seven hours. His suffering is unbelievable, a slow, increasing agony without relief. All Lance can do is shift the worse pain from his arms, shoulders and chest to his legs, but now, after another hour, he can’t even do that. He begs for release, for mercy, but no one is listening. His only companion is the camera staring at him, recording his naked, glistening, powerful body being pulled apart by its own weight. He gradually loses consciousness, slumping, his body entering a stage of shock. When he is finally cut down, he collapses to the floor, his arms frozen in the crucified pose, his breathing faint and sporadic. Next week: Whipping his damaged body.
